How about another snow tire/wheel question? I have a 2003 Vector 6spd fitted with 225/45-17 Pirellis. I live in a hilly section of the Bronx, NY, drive about 10 miles roundtrip to work plus another 500 miles pleasure during winter months (other car is AWD).

From what I've read here on TSN,I should mount winter tires and there appears to be a general consensus that moving down to a 16" wheel makes performance and economic sense. There also appears to be a general consensus that Tire Rack offers a decent selection and competitive pricing. They also sell a 16x6.5 steel wheel that will supposedly fit the bolt pattern of my Vector for less then $50. Has anyone bought that wheel for their Vector? What tire did you buy? Tire Rack recommends a 215/55-16 tire. Does that sound right? Given that I drive approximately 750 miles per month during the "snow months", lets say, Dec-Mar, could I get 3 winters out of a $100 snow tire? ( I take care of my car and frequently check what needs to be checked and if you haven't guessed, I haven't thought about snow tires for over 20 years because up until June, when I leased this Saab, I drove 4x4's.
