Misfiring shocks can mimic transmission problems and there should be noticeable flutter in rpms as the engine loses power.
If one coil is going bad in the DIC, best to replace the whole part. Would not be a bad idea to order a T-5 DIC on line from Genuine SAAB or elsewhere. $100 or more cheaper than buying from the dealer.
However, you may also be experienced a clogged fuel filter and/or fuel contamination.
Absent a differential diagnosis, rule outs can get rather expensive. Have the mechanic take it out on the highway for a run and see if it will act up for him while you are in the passenger seat.
