My dealer tells me the brake calipers need to lubricated every 10K miles in our area with road salt. He explained this to me after replacing the rear brakes that were total toasted at 30K miles (about $450 for pads and rotors). At almost 60k miles my front brakes still look to have lots of material (so where does all the brake dust come from) and the rears are also fine, now that I'm having them lubricated. Saab really should have designed this better (let's blame GM) - other cars I have owned haven't needed this service - but may have benefitted from it :)
My dealer (Forno, Endicott, NY) comes across to me as honest and caring about my relationship with my car. I don't think the service cost is noticeably more than my VW's and is more thorough.
It sounds like the dealer was willing to cut you a break since they missed the problem. I'd try talking them into giving you the parts at cost and you cover the labor. I didn't know anyone turned rotors any more and you will end up needing them probably sooner than later - and you will have to pay the labor again when they warp, so get it over with!
Try to develop a good relationship with your dealer and service department. They need you as much as you need them. And when you need them to go the extra mile, they'll be there for you.
