got to say that i was thrilled to see almost no material on the plug after the first drain with it in (30k to 40k miles), considering the way i drive. the m1 0w-40 must be working also. getting close to 50k now and am again excited to see what was going on.
i purposefully waited until the worthless free dealer maintanence period was over because i could not trust those fools with a $28 plug to drop.
on another note, the dude at avlube was very communicative being that i told him i had a saab and was buying the vw plug. he made very sure i knew what i was doing.
if you have a drain plug on your auto trans (i don't know if you do, 'cause my saab is a 5spd), definitely find a magnetic plug that works. on cars that don't have a drain plug (ie were you have to drop the pan to change the fluid and filter), there is usually a magnet in there, and it is usually loaded with a lot of crap. i change my atf on my other car every 30k miles.
btw, saab 5spd transmissions have a regular magnet in the drain plug.
good luck,
f
