Park the vehicle. Remove the road wheel, remove it center cap, refit the wheel and lower to the ground. With a long breaker bar, and an 1&1/4" socket, remove the nut on the end of the drive shaft. Use some oil on the exposed threads and you should have had oil or a rust preventative on there all of these year anyways. Remove the road wheel. Remove the 16mm tie rod nut and with a suitable tool pop its taper. Remove the ball joint nut and pop its taper. That is the most trick part. It will be beter to have both front wheels off the ground.
Now depress the control arm and get the ball joint taper out of the hub. Now pull the hub out to the side and get the drive shaft spline out of the hub, then yank the drive shaft out of the transmissions final drive. When you do that, oil will not flow out.
I think a good shop could change the axle in 1/2 if they wanted to. Nver more than one hour!
See the link for other torque values. The drive shaft nit will need to be torqued to 214 ft-lb. So you will need a sturdy 1/2 drive torque wrench for that. Many have done strut rebuilds, doing drive shafts is much easier.
When you do this, the alignment will not be affected, so no need to do or pay for that. This kind of DIY work is not for everybody, but certainly withing reach of most who are inclided.
