New Non-Turbo Saab 9-3
(23 Dec 03)
To lower the introductory price of the Saab 9-3, it will be available in the new year with a naturally aspirated GM family engine. The 1.8i Entry model will cost £16,995, with the Linear version (pictured) in the catalogue at an extra £1000, and the Arc and Vector specifications at a £2000 premium over that.
The Entry comes with black cloth trim, air conditioning and the familiar Saab audio system. Linear, Arc and Vector interiors are the same as those of the corresponding turbocharged models.
Power output of the 1.8i engine is 120bhp, and it produces 123lb/ft of torque at 3800rpm. That allows for a 0-60mph time of 11.1 seconds and a top speed of 123mph. Fuel consumption figures are 45.6mpg extra urban and 35.8mpg combined, with CO2 emissions at 188g/km.
Saab is pointing out that the new model has the same five-star Euro NCAP rating for occupant protection as the rest of the 9-3 range. All the 1.8i variants have a Group 11 insurance rating, and CAP has already forecast that they’ll retain 38% of their original value after three years/60,000 miles.
