Well, we bought a 99 9-3 base, 42K miles, for my wife in May. Since then the following have needed replacement: muffler, swaybar link, front struts. Now I find an oil leak that's getting worse. I've pinpointed it to either the oil pan, or front c'shaft seal. I do the maintenance myself, double checked the plug (used new gasket), and the filter. They're OK. So, we make an appointment at the dealer. With Christmas, they said come in Fri. No problem. So while we wait for Friday to come up, the airbag warning light goes on, and will not come off. My wife, who absolutely loves the Saab, now refers to it as "The Lemon". I can't blame her.

The car now has 48K miles, appears to have been well maintained, never in an accident, and is not abused. Should I expect more problems at this mileage. If the car wasn't Saab Certified, I would have sold it by now as the repairs will likely be over 1/4 of what I paid for the car (assuming costs after the oil leak & air bag problem). This car was supposed to be our "reliable" road trip car. Looks like we'll be taking the trusty Ford out over the holidays.

I'm not trying the bash Saab. I'm just frustrated with the quality of this vehicle. Anyone else have similar problems at this mileage?? (Yes, I know about the DI cassette). One thing that gets me is how someone can make an excuse and call Saabs "quirky". That's just a VW owner's bad excuse for breakdowns. (I've owned alot of VW's...love/hate relationship).

Sorry for the rant, I do love the car and hope to keep it for a long time. But only if the problems stop coming up. I just feel bad for my wife who's gone from raving about her Saabto everyone, to calling it a lemon.

Happy holidays--
Jay
