If the repairs are not being covered by warranty, I would advise you to get a second opinion on what needs to replaced. Catalytic converters can sometimes become plugged if they have been overheated due to a rich exhaust mixture. This can happen if your ignition (D.I. cassette or spark plugs) malfunctions.
If this is the case, I'd be surprised if the mufflers were effected.
If, as you indicated, the required maintenance was done, and you have suffered a converter failure, I think you should be covered by the extended emmissions system warranty. You should ask about this and be persistent if they are the ones who have done the maintenance.
Good luck !
