I don't know the percentage but it is quite a few non SAI cars (both 4 cyl and V6) in the US.
When new smog regulations comes along, car manufacturers needs to make a certain amount of cars to fulfill a quota that the government has forced them to. Otherwise the car model as a whole will not be certified for sale.
Car makers don't really want to equip their cars with all this stuff since it makes the car more expensive, so they only do it on the minimum amount of cars that the quota force them to. People are not that keen on paying more for a car when new because it have an extra smog device installed so they are sold for the same price as the non SAI cars.
The SAI system have absolutly nothing to do with making your car run better but it sends out a little bit less pollution when the car is started cold.
The SAI system on many brands have also malfunctioned quite a bit and lots of people are paying through their nose to keep it up and running so that they can get the car passed smog.
It would say on the sticker in engine compartment if your car should have had the SAI at some point and time.
Be very glad that your car is not SAI equipped.
