The engine/tranny assembly has to break away & move downwards, so it can go underneath the car. To make that happen, ALL the different parts of the structure have to collapse the way they're designed. If you strengthen one part alone, you disturb that stuff.
This is just throwing ideas around. I'm an engineer but I'm not in a position to re-analyze THIS structure properly. I'm just pointing out some things that have to be considered. Most of us have talked about how we rely on our Saabs to protect us in a crash.
If you can check a video clip of a frontal crash test, look closely at the engine compartment collapsing. If the engine & stock subframe break away together as a relatively rigid body, then this brace might not change anything. But if this frame holds onto the floorpan too tightly, then maybe it'll pull the firewall down with it, collapsing the dashboard down onto your feet? But still, watching a crash video & guessing about it over the web is a poor substitute for proper analysis.
