Sounds like the car is well maintained

That's normal wear and tear stuff you're talking about now, no reason to think the car won't last. The only things that ever motivated me to change cars were severe mechanical failure or a major change in my car needs. Personally $800 wouldn't be a deal breaking repair for me, I'd rather pay that than be out a downpayment, loan and have higher insurance. Cars are always a "loss" no matter how you look at it, it's just a question of what you're willing/able to afford.
Car boredom is a totally different story though ;) If you're tired of the old car, you've got the money and see something you like, I say go for it. Buying a car when you aren't under pressure is a lot nicer than the way I've done it. Additionally you can hang on the your old car and sell it yourself, which will always get you better money.
Good luck with your decision, here's hoping you stick with Saab!
