Purchased my second Saab four weeks ago, a (CPO) 2000 9-3 base auto with 32k miles for $10,500. First thing I did was take it to an independent shop, confirmed that the 30K major service had not been done; had them service the tranny and replace the front brakes and rotors. I in turn, did the plugs and filters, was going to wait a month or so for the coolant and brake fluid flush. Anyway, there were some obvious warranty issues that I need addressed¡K.heater box failure, pcv hose/oil leak fix, rear wiper washer couple other minor things.
So I took it to the Saab dealer in Boulder, CO for these items under the CPO warranty, after some confusion about the transferability of the CPO warranty they agreed to fix everything and a synth oil change.
Then the call came, service manager said I have terrible oil sludge in the motor and I would need a short block replacement. He wasn¡¦t sure if Saab would pick up the tab. It looks like the certifying CPO dealership (which issued the CPO at 27K) almost a year ago didn¡¦t check a damn thing on the car before certifying it. Because of that, Saab agreed to eat the cost of the new engineº
For once, a happy ending to a potentially crapping deal.
Any advice on breaking-in the new engine and should I use synthetic from the start??
