01 Convertible Top Woes

For the fourth time now (over 3 years and 25,000 miles) the Saab's convertible top won't close (Check Soft Top Message on SID) and I can't drive the car. Fortunately it happened in my driveway today and not elsewhere so I'm not totally stranded.
The last time it happened I was in a parking lot and the towing company that Saab Roadside sent out couldn't get the top to lock down and was unwilling to tow it for fear of it catching wind and being further damaged.
My dealer has had it in several times and replaced the pistons, switches etc. But the problem still occurs...is this just a bad design and I should expect that the problem will continue? Is there an upgraded part that can be put in place of the faulty stuff that Saab is using?
Basically, I just want to know that I can safely put the top down (isn't that the idea behind a convertible) and have it go back up again consistently. I live in Florida and haven't had the top down more than twice in the past year for fear of this problem.
Are the new Saab convertible tops any more reliable?
