Viggen Backfire Question

my 2001 viggen (44k miles) seems to have a little backfire. I think it is backfire that I am hearing. It sounds like a gurgle coming out of the exhaust. It actually sounds as if there is water in the muffler. It happens when the engine revs decrease... like if I rev it in neutral and let it fall down to idle...
Is this a problem? common?
I have the J/R K/N filter unit from taliferro in the trunk....should I hold off the install until the dealer takes a listen to the engine? if it becomes a warranty issue, I don't want the dealer to bitch about me changing the engine intake and those associated sounds...
