I too get the occasional check engine light, and the error message that comes up is for a bad gas cap.
However I did have this checked at the dealer, and supposedly I have a vapor break in the fuel filler arm. Dealer said its nothing to worry about, but my CE light may continue to come on. Or it could cause an issue when it comes time for the emissions test. Hopefully it won't, but just so you know, you could have the same problem, and your gas cap could be fine.
The thing that stinks about this, is my warrenttee doesn't cover the fuel filler arm, so I've just dealt with seeing the CE light from time to time.
