Hey All,
I have a 1999 Saab 9-3 automatic I bought it about 3 weeks ago, it has 34K on it. So far its needed a few repairs, RT front motor mount, Right Front CV joint boot, Replaced Water Pump (it was leaking which was weird). All of these things were saab dealer repaired on 11/16/04 (paid by the non-saab dealer i bought it from due to lemon laws), in addition I had the 30K check up done. They said no problems found after repairs The car doesn't shake anymore when switching gears which is good but now i have new issues.
Issue #1
I drove the car about 750miles in one day and everything runs smoothly, no complaints about the ride other than it being long. Next day, I try starting the car and it starts hard ( always has) but then it feels like it is going to stall out, engine revs up, putters, revs, then is stable. Then there are no problems during the ride, idles perfectly. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this may happen.
Supposedly during the 30k check up they did an oil change ( 5w-30) and changed the spark plugs. (I drove from 30degree weather down to 80 degree weather, not sure if oil visc. would have anything to do with a poor start.)
Issue #2
When the car is idling, the turbo-fan comes on briefly, and shakes the car a bit, and pulls down the idle of the car before coming back up, is this normal?
Issue #3
The heating/cooling system of the car makes a high pitched fan noise, if someone had hearing loss they may not be able to hear this, just wondering if this is something to be concerned about. It puts out good heat and a/c.
Issue #4
When driving the car either the engine or undercarriage(exhaust system possibly, but was replaced in '03) makes an interesting noise, like a tuck-tuck-tucka. Not sure if this is normal or if i'm being over sensitive to the car running. It is a gutteral type sound( compare it to a garbage truck or school bus sound, just not as loud). I again don't know if this is anything to be concerned about.
Issue #5
When I turn off the car, and the engine makes a weird Buzzing noise. Somewhat high pitched. I have no idea what this is, i only heard it when i had the hood up and turned off the car. Any thoughts?
Some History of the car,
The car was driven 18k its first year, 8k its second, and about 3 or 4k every year till i bought it. It seems to have regular maintence or sat for awhile.
Some History about me,
I come from two really crappy cars. My first a 1996 Honda Accord, spent money on it, tranny went, lost a lot of $$ on it. My second car was a 1991 Lincoln Towncar that needed a lot of repairs throughout ownership, and once the tranny went at 130k the car went to. I am very sensitive to tranny problems ( I wanted a manual, but when I saw this car the miles, condition, price made sense( not sure anymore).) The 99 Saab tranny seems fine, origianlly i thought there was something wrong since whenever i changed gears from P to R to N to D and vice versa the whole car would shake, the RT front motor mount was fixed and it stopped doing it when my foot is on the brake, however, it still kind of does it when i don't have my foot on the brake. I've wanted a saab for a bit, my gf has an '86 9-3 manual turbo with 187k ( runs pretty damn well), and i love driving it. I just want this car to work and keep the problems down to a minimum. I would greatly appreciate any help, as i can decide if i sell the car, get lemon law $$, or the car fixed.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
-Jon
