I replaced the springs when I did the dampers (aka shocks/struts). I found that the Konis softened the ride a bit when adjusted to soft.
When my wife was pregnant and we had lots of frost heaves around, I put the stock springs back on. With the softer stock springs, the Konis liked to be kept on the soft setting or perhaps 1/2 stiff in the rear.
I put my B&G springs back on just recently. I remembered one side effect of those. I can bottom out over large bumps now which I do not like. I think the B&Gs should be left to the manual tranny cars. I have a slushbox.
Koni adjustments? If I'm on a smooth road or track, the best handling is with the Konis set one full turn or "full stiff". For real world driving and stock springs, they should be set to soft with the rear set stiffer than the front. With the B&G performance springs, I found the car quite bouncy with the Konis on soft. I think the Konis are wearing a bit. I ended up putting them on 1/2 stiff front and rear and find the ride and handling much more controlled, even over bumpy roads. If I set the Konis any stiffer, the Konis will pump the suspesnion down such that the car is sitting and bouncing off of the bump stops.
ps. I found the Eibach springs (I had those before too) to be the best overall spring for the car. I bet the Eibach combo with the dampers which are tuned to the springs are even better. Getting the spring and damper combo correct is difficult and very important. Why chance it?
