Speaker Question

I have an '02 9-3 SE with standard audio pkg (4 speakers). I recently purchased replacements for the stock speakers - 3.5" Pioneer TS-A878 for the fronts and 6x9 Kenwood KFC-6906S 3-ways for the rear. The fronts were a great improvement over stock, but the rears almost actually sound worse. It seems like there is absolutely no bass. Is it possible I got the polarity screwed up? I followed one of the schematics from an earlier posting. From online reviews the Kenwoods are supposed to be decent speakers and I figured the stock wattage from the head unit would be sufficient. I am trying not to have to add an amp. The max for the speakers are 170W but am not sure what the nominal is. I know the stock speakers are 40W max and 20W nominal. Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
Tom
