There is a lot of moisture in a car that eventually makes the lock frozen. It appears you are parking outside, i.e. no garage. Just your breathing in the car, and even more so hauling a dog, adds a lot of moisture and the consequences are seen only when it gets cold.
I recommend you take a six-pack to a friend's house with a garage & talk it up with YOUR car warming up in their garage. Open all doors & the hatch. The idea is to dry it out enough that even the moisture hidden down in the lock will migrate to the outside. If it's bad enough, a dealer fix is about 200 buck$. The hair dryer helps a lot to get some moisture out, but it takes more time that you have to hold a hair dryer in thse temps. I've done that many times and it is not a good way to spend quality time.
While your car is in the friend's garage, occasionally hit the lock area with the ahair dryer, about once every half an hour for five minutes or so.
You'll still have residual effects of stickiness and occasionally needing the hair dryer again, but it will eventually get better.
