Just theorizing here... but seeing as how the valve is at the top of the tank somewhere, and that it doesn't loose liquid, just vapors. I would see if it is accessible to caulk or gasket seal the valve back in.
However if it involves lowering the gas tank anyway to gain access, then you have to decide if it is worth the hassle to caulk it and find out that your fix may be only temporary.
Between working on my brother's boat or my dad's RV, I've acquired a collection caulks and sealants that serve well under varyign applications.
It may be worth a try, if your are the DYI type. May not be if you have to pay $65/hour labor for somebody else.
