It's fixable: do a search here: "SID", "SID display", "foam method".
I went through this myself and was successful in this endevour. All of my pixels are back, and mind you that was my first attempt, prior I just lived with it (I even posted here after I did it).
On the other hand, if you call dealer and ask about fixing of the display they will respond with a quote for complete unit replacement, and it'll fail again sooner or later. Let alone they are expensive.
The trick is: they are right: in SAAB's technical service manuals/bulletins, SID computer is a solid entity, and doesn't break down to separate parts (except of light bulbs for backlight), thus they will not fix it: they don't know how, they don't have tools, they are not allowed to do that.
The procedure you'll find on this forum was devised by enthusiasts, hands-on people: "rise against the machine" in other words.
I verified above with SAAB service in the following countries: Canada, Germany, Russia, Austria; everywhere I lived and drove SAABs. May be someone here can prove me wrong, but I doubt.
