You would be better off going with a 215/50 than a 205/55. The 205/55 is taller than a 215/50 which is a little taller than your stock tire. Plus, you get a bigger contact patch with the 215 and some decent tire options.
I believe your rims are 6.5" wide. A 225/45 when put on that rim would be just a hair taller than your stock size. A word of caution though--although it should not be a problem, a 225/45 is rated for a minimum wheel width of 7", so not the choice if you are uncomfortable going out of spec.
One last rant: I won't buy Japanese products if I can help it. Japan does everything it can to hurt America in trade. We experience U.S.-only tarrifs or laws which make it pretty much impossible for us to sell a variety of products in Japan (such as rice, oranges, snow skis, motorcycles, etc.). Two interesting anecdotes: Japan wants to hurt the U.S. so bad that the U.S.-only tarrif on rice would make U.S produced rice cost three times as much as rice from any other country on the shelves of Japanese markets! It used to be prohibitively expensive to get a motorcycle over 900cc in Japan. Years ago when Japan found out Harley-Davidson was intending to sell an 883cc bike in Japan, the laws magically changed so that anything over 850cc was prohibitively expensive. Please do not be Japanese if you can help it!
