This is a topic that has been hashed over on scores if not hundreds of posts to this list over the last several years. I, like everyone else who bought a 2001 9-3, have explored the cupholder options and fixes. A search on this list and on the 9-5 list will yield a lot, especially if your go back a couple of years when the cars were newer.
For a view of the original dash mounted part, look at Turner's Hill Saab, in England. England? Yeah. The cupholder is an option there, so they picture the full part on their web site. But, since the part is standard on all American Saabs, your dealer should be able to get it for you, or get it from a salvage yard.
The web page with the part is protected, so it cannot be linked to directly.
* 1 - go to http://www.saab.uk.com/accessories.htm
* 2 - accessories link
* 3 - Saab 93 Accessories - Interior
* 4 - Scroll down to "Centre Dash Cup Holder" (LHD version)and get a nice look at what is inside one's dash.
