New tire size, speedo accuracy

I just got done reading the thread linked below about changing between 205/50 & 205/55 and the effect it would or would not have on the speedo. But I still have some questions...
Yesterday I got a new set of 205/50-16 Toyo Proxes 4 (which I really like so far - though haven't had them in the rain yet) which was a change from my winter Nokian 205/55-16, and I noticed on my way in to work this morning that the speedo seemed a lot faster than normal. For example, it said I was doing 80 when I couldn't have been doing more than 70-72. It seemed to be less accurate the faster I was going - does that sound right?
Is there any way to correct this? Wouldn't this not only effect the speed but the odometer as well -- even though significant difference would only be seen over the long run. Or is it possible the speedo was incorrect before, and I've been driving faster than I thought I was for the past few months? I don't know if the prior owner had it adjusted when they got the 205/55-16's on it before it was sold to me.
Thanks!
