Ok, with my 9-5, the drain plug was round and vise grips and pipe wrench wouldn't do it. I did get it off but this is only for the brave. First of course I got a new drain plug. Then marked off a drill for an appropriate easy-out so it would go most but not all the way through the plug. Then I drilled that hole up the center of the plug. Next comes the part for the brave, I ran a 1/2 inch drill up the hole in the center of the plug until the head of the plug came off leaving only the threaded portion in the oil pan.
At this point I found out that the hole for the easy-out either wasn't deep enough or was to large in diameter but it didn't matter because the remaining portion of the plug was so loose it was seeping oil. The rest came out easily with a small screwdriver jammed in the hole. Don't try this with a smaller drill, it has to be bigger than the shank where the threads begin or it will go into the oil pan and damage the threads. It also has to be centered or you will also damage the oil pan.
