Well, it started with a little weeping on the front driver's side, it was January and too damn cold to work on the thing, so I waited.
The last time I changed the oil, all around the oil filter was wet with oil. I thought I had a prob with the oil filter housing-- as I had seen posts here about that subject. So I took her to the mechanic and he said I needed a head gasket. $1200. I said thank you and contemplated driving it into the swamp or something... I saw all the posts about the loose bolts on the '99's and, even though my mechanic felt it wouldn't help, I took the cam cover off and had a butchers this morning. All of the bolts were not up to the torque that they should have (most took about 40 - 50 ft lbs to get them to loosen) but the two near the front corners were not much more than finger tight! I followed the TSB and will now wait to see if I caught it in time. I had no coolant leaks and the engine was running fine.
