Yes, I'm screaming alarm, because that's what it's doing. I checked the posts & there seem to be 2 possible culprits. It's a '99 9-3SE with just under 50 k miles. New battery in the fall.
Tonight attending a wedding, I get in the car to go to the reception & the alarm goes off. I start the car (I thought the alarm would prevent this) & drive to the reception. Stop the car & shut it off, alarm goes off before I climb out. lock doors with remote , alarm stops for a few seonds & restarts. Getting lots of notice in the parking lot by now. I tried various modes of locking & unlocking. Nothing will prevent the alarm from sounding loudly. No message has appeared on the SID.
Again I start the car (this is getting interesting now) park in a lot further from the reception, lock the car with the alarm on full blast & walk away. It stops sounding after about 20 seconds, just as I arrive at the door. After 2 hours I come out & the lights are flashing.
Start it up & drive home. Same stuff, Gawd is that loud in the garage! I would have left it outside to flash, but it's below 0°F here & I don't want to also deal with a dead new battery. About 20 seconds later, silence, but flashers still on. About 10 minutes later the sound returns, then off in about 20 econds. I disconnect the positive battery terminal for about 15 seconds thinking that will reset various modes. The moment I retouch it to the battery my ears are again assaulted. Disconnected positive terminal in a hurry & the alram sound continues. Ah, the alarm battery, located elsewhere.
So my question, finally. The archives show simiar things happening to others & one thing seems to be corrosion/bad ground on the siren unit. Another seems to be some malfunction with the central (between the seats) locking control. Which to proceed with first? I'm way off warranty, but have an extended one through a third party. Is there any way to drive this car to work & such without annoyances & fear of a dead battery? Seems fuse 35 removal was mentioned, but that seems to prevent the car from being restarted.
