The drain plug is big (24mm) so see if you have this size in your tool set. Other than that, just make sure you don't over torque it, since it is easier to do with a socket this big.
Ideally, you want to keep the ATF pink in color. The the color is just a dye to distinguish it from motor oil, you'll always safe following this guideline. Brownish ATF doesn't neccisarily mean it bad, but you can propably guess that it's not fresh either. Some people use the smell test, were a burnt smell means the flush is overdue.
60K miles is just way too long, 20-30K miles may be more realistic. But like Doug said, ATF is so inexpensive so why not be conservative with your intervals. I personally use 10K mile intervals with regular Dexron III. Check you manual because the newer Saabs don't use DexIII.
