Gas Tank opening - Plastic broken

I don't think this is a major concern, but when fueling up this morning, I pulled the gas pump out of the filler opening and one piece of plastic snapped off and stayed attached to the gas nozzle in one of its small holes on the side of the metal pipe. Upon further inspection, I noticed that 1 or 2 other little triagle shaped plastic pieces were missing. I would believe these things help with overflow to keep the fuel from spilling out of the car, but if those other clips have indeed broke off and have fallen into the tank, are there concerns? I would have to believe they can't get anywhere harmful due to their size, and the fuel filter later on in the system, but what are your thoughts about these plastic pieces if they are in the tank?
