Convertible Top Hydraulic Piston Question Posted by Paul [Email] ![]() ![]() |
I have ‘99 9-3 convertible with 60k miles on it. Now that spring is here (finally), I tried to use the soft top for the first time and guess what, the fifth bow went up part way then didn’t want to come back down (had to lower the fifth bow manually). So I took it to a non-dealer repair shop to have it looked at and they found that the right and left outside pistons were leaking and needed to be repaired. The guy also told me that the micro switches and relies on the pistons need to be replaced. I have heard of the hydraulic pistons needing to be replaced but have never heard of having to have the micro switches and replies replaced. So my questions are:
- Has anyone else heard of replacing the micro switches and relies at the same time as the pistons?
- How much should I expect to pay to replace the two pistons? (I live in the Boston area)
- Are these leaking pistons going to be an on-going problem with my Saab?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
