These will not fit the later 9-3's which have a different non interchangeable pully.
The problem is with the fact that the outer bearing race is spinning. The lube then has a centrifugal force on it and it leaks out of the outer race's 'static' seal. The heat makes the lube more mobil. So simply changing the plastic to metal would not increase the life of the unit! And the plastic will be lighter than the aluminum. When the bearing does go, it is probably better to have the plastic melt and drop the belt than having a metal unit sieze up completely and cause the belt to melt a few more miles down the road. A melting belt will leave rubber in the grooves of the alternator, crank, AC wheels etc. This can be a horror show to remove, think of shop labor rates...
