A while back I popsted a question regarding the tramlining I encounter with my '99 viggen. The car already has an abbot racing viggen rescue kit installed, but it has 235/40/17 Pirelli Rosso tires on 8 x 17 BBS RK II rims. The car is also quite a handful (literally) if I hit full boost in the 1st of 2nd gear, it also has a abbot ECU and intercooler. Someone had suggested that the wider tires might be contributing to the problem.

Well, I've finally broken down and put the winter tires on, stock viggen wheels with 215/45/17 Pirelli 210 snows. The difference is phenomenal, I'm shocked. The front end is so calm now, it just gives a little kick occasionally, like bump steer, if you hit a significant crease in the road. I'm going to try to avoid testing full boost in lower gears with the winter tires on, I'm afraid it will tear them to shreads. I seriously wonder if there's something not right with the other wheels/tires, wrong offset of something, or could it just be the stiffer sidewalls and greater width. The next time I get summer tires I'm thinking of trying a 225/45 street/track tire (e.g. Falken Azenis) so I can get more grip but less width. At the rate the Rossos are wearing, I won't have to wait long.
