The core, so I have read here, connects with o-rings and retainer clips. So the problem is the o-rings, core or both? I dont' know. But with the labor to get the core out to replace the o-rings, the cost of the core is not the major expense, so perhaps the pervailing wisdom is to replace anyways.
Can anyone comment on why the core would fail and the rads to not?
So what to do? Bars leaks"" might stabilize the problem. And perhaps it has some organics that might rejuvenate the o-rings or stabalize them a bit.
The water pump adapter to block o-rings harden and leak at around 100-120 Kmiles. Perhaps the heater core o-rings have the same problem.
There are products 'water pump lubricants...". They have emusifiable lubricants. I would try that for a few dollars. That might rejuvenate the o-rings of the core and the water pump. That might take a few weeks. If not, try Bars. Perhaps that has emusifialbe oils that will help seals and o-rings.... start reading labels! Every problem that is an opprotunity to try things an learn.
