Very odd wiring in 99 9-3 base auto

My front left turn signal is not working. The side light seems to be. I try to exchange bulbs-no cigar.
The wiring appears to be different on the drivers side left front turn signal than the right side. The left side has 3 wires going into the plug. The right side only two wires. Is that unusual. Is everybody like that?
What to do?
Thanks
