need sorta-all-season tires for Viggen

I've been running Bridgestone SO3 Pole Positions on my '99 Viggen, and they're shot after 35,000 miles (which I think isn't bad). This time, I've decided I no longer want to try driving on these things in the little bit of snow we get around here (Wichita, KS).
So, I'm looking for a really great dry traction tire that'll at least allow me to get to the store in a couple of inches of snow. I've actually gone 2 winters on the Pole positions, and have survived reasonably well in up to 5 inches of snow, but it is kind of scary!
I've heard decent things about the Pirelli PZero Nero M&S and the Conti Extreme Contact. Any others? It's not in the budget to do dedicated snow tires (and would be silly for the 3-4 snows we get each year), or else I'd do that and just get more SO3's...
Thanks
