Loose steering after idler pulley and belt replacement

My 99 9-3 broke down last Friday night because of the frigid temperatures here in Mass. which resulted in a cracked idler pulley and damaged serpentine belt. The service center at the dealership replaced both the pulley and the belt. Now the steering on my car is really loose - there is a lot of play in the wheel when driving on the highway and I have to turn the wheel substantially more than before to make the same turn. Also, it seems to be more loose when making a right turn than a left.
I called the service center immediately and they told me that I should expect the steering to not be as tight. I am really dissatisfied with the way my car is handling and am planning on bringing it back. I'm wondering if anything can be done that will make my car drive the way it used to.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
