Under normal circumstances with no mods 57K is a drop in the bucket for the turbo which should go to at last 150K maybe more and many have had much success beyond that. If it was strained by mods or other abuse there could be a concern, but thats a risk you take -- you will just need to check the car over. You can always get an extended warranty, but the debates here often are 50/50 whether or not its worth the extra cost.

I have a 99 Viggen with 41K miles and it has very few issues, nothing major and I don't ever worry about its reliability.

Things to look for:

- Be sure to check the rims - bent ones can be a problem with the Viggen - usually detected with a shimmy at 50 and above. Also the rims commonly have curb rash - no curb rash either means newer rims or well cared for car.
- Check the rotors for wear -- I bet at 57K the fronts have been replaced, if not they will likely need it, the rears are good for ~85K miles
- Check to see if it has had all its services on time and how often the oil was changed and if it was full synthetic. At 57K you are approaching the 60K mile service which is a major service, maybe if its at a dealer have them cover the 60K service.
- Check the shifting, some have had some issues with the tranny, mainly just needing some adjustment. Could also be the clutch.
- Check the tires, hopefully they all match and are decent quality, good tires on a Viggen makes a big difference.
- Common stuff like the SID, see if all the LEDs light up on the computer and the climate control.
- Check for accidents etc. The lower front air dam will likely have scuffs and thats common, very hard to avoid damage there, anything else would be odd.
- Call a dealer (or if a Saab dealer ask) for the warranty work done on the car -- it would be interesting to find out if the DI was replaced. Pushing 60K you might want to invest in a spare. Might also check the condition of the battery.

If its being sold by a Saab dealer maybe they can certify it -- that would help, otherwise I would take it to an indy for inspection.
