I've had the same problem twice with my 99 9-3. My indie fixed it the first time after I had to have the car towed to him because I couldn't turn the key to start it. He said it's a very simple mechanism. He suggested that I lube the lock with light oil such as 3 in 1. It began to get sticky again after about 6 months. This is a mechanical interlock issue and the hardware is below the lock and shift lever. No way to easily access to lube. I actually lubed with a little air tool oil into the key slot and then blew it down in with compressed air. Guess the oil runs down. I've had no trouble since last fall. That seems a crude fix, but it seems to work, and you're right about the search. I found almost nothing on the board. No guarantee. Good luck.
