Heated seats (I know, it's August!) and A/C repairs. Posted by walt [Email] (#2707) [Profile/Gallery] (more from walt) on Tue, 24 Aug 2004 08:59:11 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
So, while I've got the dash apart to replace the AC frost sensor (wasn't the problem, BTW, but couldn't get the dealer to believe I needed a thermo switch, nor could they figure out how to sell me one), I noticed some electrical hookups straped unused to the cabin side panel behind the dash. I'm thinking they are for heated seats (which my 2000 SE doesn't have).
Could someone describe the plugs that the heated seat switch would plug into. If this is not what they are for, does anyone know what they are? If it is the seat heater plug, should this be as simple as buying the switches and plugging them in? I have a mass of wires entering my seats, I'm hoping that the seats are wired up and ready to go. Am I totally dreaming, or has anyone seen a 9-3 SE ready to go with the addition of heated seat switches? The car is originally from Florida, if that matters.
There are two plugs on the passenger side, plastic clipped together. One is reddish in colour and has two wires heading to it. The other is black, larger, and has a few wires (4-6?) running to it (sorry, put it back together without being able to take pics.)
Lastly, anyone know the price of a AC thermo switch? I read the installation info on the sanden website, looks do-able. I think at this point I'm just going to change the whole compressor. I think I can get a rebuilt (with clutch) for ~$200. So far I have leak tested the AC system (none), recharged the coolant, and replaced the frost sensor. Still only a couple of minutes of cold air, turn it off, 30 mins later, a few more minutes of operation. Dealer also says possible faulty cabin temp sensor as an explanation, which I have not replaced as I really think it is ok (it seems to be operating) and so many others here have had similar experiences with the thermo switch.
Going to get hot this week, gotta work this out.
Thanks for any help,
Walt
