Hi there.

I have a '00 9-3 5-door which I bought used about a year ago. I'm not
sure if the engine and all is the same, but it seems it would be.

The only major thing I had done was to have the turbo replaced under
warranty due to a problem with one of the turbo seals leaking a
small amount of oil. This problem seemed to be common for the 2000
cars. You can search on this BB under "blue smoke", "smoke on startup",
"puff of smoke," or things like that.

So, if I were you, I would ask if the car had the turbo replaced
under warranty for that problem. If not, then I'd ask to see the
car started up after it had been sitting and not running overnight.
You're looking for a short blast of blue smoke just after startup.

By the way, I came into the Saab after having had a Volvo too. I love
this Saab. It is one of the best cars I've ever had.
