As long as it meets the manufacturer's requirements for an air filter (proper fit & it stops crud), then Saab can't deny anything in that regard.
I'd keep the paper filter &, at the end of the lease, pull the K&N & drop the paper one back in. Then I'd give the K&N to another Saab owner, rather than turn it in to the dealer.
