Hi!
I had the same problem on my '99 9-3 so I took it to the SAAB dealer and they hooked it up to machine and that's how they found out my DIRECT IGNITION CASSETTE was bad. Since replacing the DI around Thanksgiving the check engine light is off and my car runs great. But, if they find that's the problem I recommend repairing it yourself. It only has 4 bolts. I took mine to my dealer cuz my husband was out of town nd they charged me $800 to remove and replace 4 bolts & hook it to the machine. Somehow they came up with 3.5 hrs. labor. But, when I questioned them they said they did a thorough inspection on my car. How can you argue that? I probably paid them for taking lunch breaks. And I read a few comments on this site where you can get a new DI for about $250-300. Where the dealer charged me $500. Anyway I suppose it could be something else but, that's my opinion from my experience. Good luck finding the problem & HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!
