Did they work before? I'm not sure what the S is but the SE had subwoofers (really mid-woofers) in the doors but the base model did not. If they did work and no longer work then you have a problem. If you're just looking at speaker grills and wondering why you hear nothing, maybe you need the upgraded SE sound package.
If they used to work but now no longer do, I'd check the fuse or check for a connector that has come loose. The ones in the doors have their own amplifier and the signal to that comes from the head unit. I forget where the amplifier is mounted but if you search through this board, you might find it. I remember somebody mentioning the location of it. It's either under a front seat, under the front console or mounted near the front footwells. I forget which.
Since both speakers are out it's probably a lack of power going to the amplifier, or possibly a shared signal connector between the head unit and the amplifier. I'm grasping at straws here but it makes sense.
