True enough that FM reception will never sound quite as clear as a CD, but I am happy enough with this setup. Depends on personal taste, I guess. I have seen FM modulators for cars that "piggyback" into the antenna cable - ie... plug the modulator into the stereo, and your normal antenna into the modulator... these may work better. FM CD stackers have been available for years that use this system.

The best part of the Cig lighter battery charger for the iPod is that it amplifies the volume (and possible the strength of the transmission?) when I plug the tunecast device into it. It even has a volume control to adjust the output (it can be too high... makes the bass sound horrible).

As for being legal, I have never heard that they aren't. Australian tele-communications regulations are strictly enforced, and they wouldn't be allowed to sell them if they breached anything. They are of such a relatively low stength (max 100metre broadcast), that they won't cause problems. FM modulators have been sold in different forms in Australia for years. I do know that my Uncle was fined (and almost gaoled!) years ago for boosting his cordless phone to the point where it had about 5km range! He had an antenna on the roof of the house!
