If you have a 03-> 9-3 SS, used remotes WILL NOT WORK EVER!!!

While it is true you can reprogram NG900, 9000, OG9-3 and 9-5 remotes, you CAN NOT do it for 9-3 SS.

The reason is the way the key works. The Column Integrated Module (CIM) is where the key code info is stored. There is also a unique ID number for the car (no, its not the VIN). When the key is enabled for the car, the key ID number is stored in the CIM and the unique ID number is burned into the key in a memory location. This location is a one time deal. Once it is burnt, it can NEVER be changed and will NEVER work with another ID number.

BTW, this ID number is also stored in the T-8 engine module and the CIM can only be burnt once with an ID number. If the CIM is replaced the ID is transferred from the T-8 to the CIM and burnt into it. You then added the previously burnt keys and you are good to go.

If the T-8 is replaced, then the ID is transferred from the CIM. The ID number in the T-8 can be changed.

If you lose both the T-8 and CIM, like in a heavy front end wreck, You replace both units and the CIM provides a new unique ID code that is burnt into it's permeminent memory location. Since this ID number is different from the original ID number, your keys are now useless and all have to be replaced.

Aren't modern cars fun?
Steve
