Thanks for your February 6th response to my post on a suspected tranny leak. I'm quite familiar with the look/feel/smell of various fluids, so I thought I'd narrowed it down to the tranny or clutch. As suspected, the dealer confirmed this morning that the shift selector and one of the axle seals was leaking. Five and one-half hours of labor, one gasket kit, and two quarts of MTF later, voila! No leak.

Fortunately, with 37.7k on the odometer, it was still under warranty.

I did not realize this has been a problem area on the 2002 SE, or is it?

By the way, for those of you with a solid set of ramps or ready access to a lift, I'm envious. Either one really opens up the opportunity to do more work (or diagnostics) yourself, assuming you have the tools, patience, knowledge, and a twelve-pack of Sam Adams!
