Coolant issue

Hey guys. I have a 2000 9-3 5-speed. Recently, a coolant hose blew (I think going to the heater core). It was covered under warranty, and repaired. Now, on occasion, the car likes to tell me that the coolant is low. When I check, the coolant is infact low. When I take the cap off of the res. though, I hear it releasing pressure, and the tank fills back up again. This has never happened after driving, always when I first start the car. My service tech thinks it is normal and that the coolant expands. That makes sense, but not when the coolant is low when cold. Anyone have an explination? Also, this car has been somewhat of a "lemon." It has been in the shop 82 days out of the year I have owned it. Thankfully it's covered under warranty an other year. I hate it so much, but wouldn't ever want to drive anything else. Is that common with these?
