In my Viggen I have Valentine 1. One of the car magazines, perhaps Car and Driver, tested radar detectors and concluded that the V1 was prone to false alarms. My experience is similar, but I still like it because of the ability to tell you how many sources is detects, and where the sources are located.
Also, with V1, a very clean installation is possible in a 9-3. I routed the power cord from the fuse box out of sight along the windshield, coming out above the rear view mirror. The unit attaches very nicely above the rear view mirror using two or three strips of double sided tape, and rests on the rear view mirror.
Then I ran the power cord for the remote display unit so that it comes out right by the steering column. The remote display unit mounts in front of the speedometer, and only obscures the speeds above 130 mph or so.
The installation is inconspicuous ebough that I don't feel it's necessary to lock the unit up in the glovebox every time I get out of the car.
I drive briskly, so it has saved me quite a few tickets. Don't count on getting saved from laser-based speed enforcement systems, though.
