There are no cold start injectors anymore. The ECU just opens them a bit more.
Hard starting, you could search for that.
1 check/regap or replace the plugs, and read the deposits
2 use Techron Concentrate to clean up any fouled injectors, that alone fixes things like this, but yours sounds severe.
3 clean the TB
4 clean the IAC
Thats all the standard stuff that works from a maintenance point of view.
You did not post your miles...
There is a very real pattern of the fuel pressure regulators going bad right after the fuel filter is replaced. Reason unknown, dirt suspected. I will do a failure analysis if someone will send me a failed one.
And if the fuel pump is worn and bad, that can create some starting problems as well. A badly fouled fuel filter would be bad too.
How old is your DI. This does not sound like a DI problem, just wondering.
In the morning, before you start, remove the gas cap and note if you sense a low pressure in the fuel tank. That would not be good.
How is idle after warm up and power and MPGs are otherwise ok?
Don't crank an engine for a long time without letting it rest, you can burn the starter commutator or roast the coils. Maybe 15 seconds max. I don't know if the manual addresses that issue.
Low battery voltage can cause ignition problems and a battery that can't do the amps when cold will deliver low volts and also crank slower. And maybe a 5W30 or 0W40 oil would help with things too. Battery electrolyte levels ok? If you jumpered another vehicle to your battery and it started up, then the battery, cables, charging system need consideration.
