Re: oil changes - don't confuse 1st / 2nd-gen cars Posted by JimBlake [Email] (#141) [Profile/Gallery] (more from JimBlake) on Mon, 28 Feb 2005 08:32:04 In Reply to: oil change interval debated, Dave 37, Sat, 26 Feb 2005 13:33:27 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Rich has a 1st-gen 9³ ('99 - '02).
You're talking about a 2nd-gen 9³ss. It's a very different car.
4qt vs. 6qt oil capacity.
Oil-life 'monitor' on the 2nd-gen cars.
The oil-life monitor on a new 9³ss counts cold-starts, running time, revolutions, whatever else. That's a lot more information than the old car's time & miles. (It doesn't actually measure the oil's health.)
That monitor is a pretty cool feature; take advantage of it! If you feel like changing more often, then change oil when the monitor says 50%. Then don't reset the monitor. Then when the monitor says it's time for an oil change, go to the dealer & get your free one. (I guess that's still part of the package?)
